MV Mediation Youth Programs
At MVMC, we are dedicated to empowering the next generation with the tools to manage conflicts positively and constructively. Our youth programs integrate engaging, hands-on activities to equip students with lifelong communication and problem-solving skills.
The 3rd Grade Peace Curriculum
This 10-week program, supported by a grant from Slough Farm, is available in every 3rd-grade classroom across Martha’s Vineyard. Through interactive workshops, students explore themes such as conflict, feelings, effective listening, and peaceful communication. Activities include games, stories, and role-playing that encourage proactive approaches to resolving everyday disagreements. Teachers are provided with posters and toolkits to reinforce these lessons, creating a lasting impact beyond the classroom.
Coming Soon: Conflict Resolution on Film (6th Grade Program)
Set to launch in the 2025–2026 school year, this innovative program will partner with MVTV to bring conflict resolution to life. Students will create scripted mediation scenarios, experiencing the role of both mediator and participant. This project fosters an understanding of conflict dynamics and encourages collaborative problem-solving while developing media and communication skills.
Expanding Peer Mediation in High Schools
Looking ahead, MV Mediation aims to establish a peer mediation training program for high school students. This initiative will empower teens to take on leadership roles in fostering peaceful resolution strategies within their schools. By training peers to mediate conflicts, we hope to build a sustainable framework for youth-led conflict resolution across the island.
By addressing conflict resolution at pivotal stages in a student’s development, we aim to cultivate a culture of peace and understanding within our island community.
